Tag Friday - A Vintage Journey

This is the fifth Friday of July which means that over at  A Vintage Journey we have a Tag Friday post for you.
My tag began life from a mop up background from a previous project where I was using Distress Paints and the paint that was left over I mopped up onto a separate scrap piece of card. I die cut a tag from the coloured background using Tim Holtz Tag and Bookplate Die.
I applied Black Soot Distress Paint to the mini number layering stencil and then spritzed with water. The stencil was then placed face down onto the background and dabbed with a piece of kitchen towel. I then removed the stencil and dried with a heat tool.
I stamped the winged girl from the Winged Things stamp set onto a second mop up background and then cut her out and added her to my tag.
I added dimension to her wings with a second stamping and added a 'love' tag which I die cut from a background piece of card using Tim Holtz Labels Thinlits die and then stamped the wording love onto the tag. I also applied Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges of the tag. For further interest I also added random Remnant Rubs to the background, along with delicate splatters of white paint along with scratchy paint lines using an old credit card.
I decided to add my tag to a card which can then be used for a birthday and I repeated some of the techniques onto the background.

Bottle Cap Fun

Welcome to my weekly post for Artistic Outpost and today I am showcasing the Bottle Caps Background stamp along with the Paperboy stamp set from Artistic Outpost, available from Our Daily Bread Designs.
I began with a piece of white card 4" x 6" which I coloured with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to add an aged grungy feel to the background.
I stamped the Paperboy image onto the inked backdrop, created a mask of the boy and then I inked the Bottle Caps Background stamp with Black Archival Ink and stamped onto the background over the Paperboy image and then removed the mask so that the Bottle Caps appear behind the Paperboy. I added a spotlight to the boy, adding an old vintage pocket watch rim around the image. To highlight the boy further I drew around the image with a Stabilo All pencil and then smudged with a waterbrush. I added Live, Laugh, Play to the rim using The Golf Club stamp set, colouring the edges of each word with Fired Brick Distress Ink.
I added splatters of Fired Brick Distress Paint to the background and also included an old bottle cap for added dimension. Scratchy paint lines ground my Paperboy image.

Girl With Attitude!

I have been creating once again with Trish Latimer's WhimsyGirl Three, one of Trish's newly released stamps, which you can find HERE.
I opted for a vibrant colour palette this time around, just to show that you can use the image in many different ways from mixed media (my first piece which you can find HERE), rusty (as in my last piece which you can find HERE) and bright and colourful which I have used on this occasion.
I applied Grunge Paste over the Stripes Layering Stencil and then added colour with Distress Paints and then spritzed with water to blend the colours as I went along.
She has a lovely stripey dress and I added a further layer of interest by adding Distress Crayons over the circle stencil. I also applied Distress Crayons over the stripes to make some of the colours pop a little more. She is also holding a little wooden bird which I coloured with Distress Ink.
I added splatters of white paint and added some white markings with a pen to add contrast. I added Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges of her dress for definition.
I coloured her face and hair with pencils and added touches of black along with circles drawn around the image to act as a spotlight. I included Chitchat stickers for further interest.

Be You, Bravely!

I have been creating once again with Trish Latimer's WhimsyGirl Three, one of Trish's newly released stamps, which you can find HERE.
I opted to give Trish's WhimsyGirl the rusty treatment today.
I used Finnabair's Prima Rust Pastes to add the texture and rust effect to my card.
She is holding a rusty star and I have added delicate splatters of paint as a contrast and also included very light highlights with Treasure Gold.
I applied Grunge Paste over the Stars Layering Stencil to add texture and interest to the backdrop along with some cotton fibres.
added a Chitchat sticker and coloured her face with coloured pencils and added a piece of natural twine for added texture and interest.

Dreamer!

Today I have been creating with Trish Latimer's WhimsyGirl Three, one of Trish's newly released stamps, which you can find HERE.
I opted to use Trish's stamp in conjunction with PaperArtsy Infusions to give her a mixed media feel.
I applied Grunge Paste through one of Tim Holtz number stencils and then added the Infusions to colour; layering the colour bit by bit until I was happy with the depth.
I applied Grunge Paste through Tim Holtz Stars Layering Stencil onto her dress and again coloured with Infusions. I added two layers to her dress for added dimension. She is also holding a small wooden star to echo the stars on her dress.
I added white highlights with a white pen and added splatters of white paint to add contrast to the design.
I also added a circle of white paint using an old lid along with a touch of shading around the edge of the Whimsy Girl using Pumice Stone Distress Marker. The circle of paint acts as a spotlight to the image. I added a touch of colour to her face and hair with pencil crayons.

Thanks Trish for the opportunity to use one of your fabulous stamps.

Live, Laugh, Play

Today I am showcasing The Golf Club stamp set from Artistic Outpost, available from Our Daily Bread Designs.
I have opted for a vintage more muted colour palette this time around for The Golf Club imagery. I begann with a piece of kraft card which I coloured lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Ink; applying the ink to a piece of recycled packaging, spritzing with water and then smooshing the ink across the backdrop and then drying with a heat tool. I distressed the edges of the card with scissors and then applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to age further.
I applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to Tim Holtz Striped Stencil; simply swiping the inkpad directly over the stencil and then spritzed with water and placed the inked stencil onto the background, dabbing with a piece of kitchen towel and I then removed the stencil and dried with a heat tool. I also included a touch of background stamping using the Ephemera Backgrounds stamp set and Black Archival Ink.
I stamped the lady golfer onto a piece of white card which I had coloured with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, cut out the image and then added to the card front. I applied white paint to a lid and then stamped the circle around the golfer to add a spotlight. I also added some torn pieces from the top of my watercolour pad, again coloured lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to age. I then added these below the golfer to ground the image. I also included text and the sentiment from The Golf Club stamp set again aged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Delicate splatters of white paint lift the design.
I also stamped the lady golfer onto the inside of my card.

Summer Artist Trading Block

This week I am showcasing the Ice Cream Shoppe stamp set from Artistic Outpost, available from Our Daily Bread Designs.
This time around I decided to create a summer ATB using the imagery from the Ice Cream Shoppe stamp set using a vibrant uplifting colour palette of Picked Raspberry and Squeezed Lemonade. I applied one colour to a piece of recycled plastic packaging, spritzed with water and then smooshed the ink onto the panel and then dried with a heat tool . I repeated the process with the second colour and again dried with a heat tool. I repeated this process until I was happy with the coverage of colour. I then added some background stamping using the Ephemera Backgrounds stamp set. I then stamped the focal image with Black Archival Ink and added the sentiment.
I continued with the same background around each side of the ATB adding further stamping from the Ice Cream Shoppe stamp set.
I love how you can see all the layers in the background and the black outline really does make the colours pop.
A touch more stamping to complete the sides of the ATB.
The top of the ATB has been decorated in the same way and I added a banner stamped using the Country Life stamp set.

Thankful

Welcome to my weekly post for Artistic Outpost, this week I am showcasing the fabulous Seed Packets Background and Harvest stamp set available from Our Daily Bread Designs.
I began with a piece of kraft card which I bent and creased to add to the aged feel. I added some colour the the background of the card, applying Vintage Photo Distress Ink to some plastic packaging, spritzing with water and then dabbing the ink onto the card and then drying with a heat tool. I then stamped the Seed Packets Background stamp onto the backdrop. I inked the stamp randomly with Potting Soil Archival Ink and stamped lightly onto the background to give a more random feel and then coloured the creases and edges which I had distressed with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I die cut a tag from white card and then stamped part of the Seed Packets Background stamp onto the tag using Potting Soil and touches of Fern Green Archival Ink. I coloured the tag lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to age and added Vintage Photo ink to the edges of the tage and also included a rusty star for added interest.
I coloured a piece of white card with Vintage Photo Distress Ink; applying the ink to a non-stick craft sheet, spritzing with water and then mopping up the ink with the card and then drying with a heat tool. I then stamped the children onto the coloured card, cut out and added to the decorated card. I used an old lid, applied Carbon Black Fluid Acrylic to the edges and stamped the circle around the children to give a spotlight.
I added the text 'Thankful' just above the tag and added some random background stamping using the Grunge Elements stamp set.
Delicate splatters of white paint have also been added for further interest.

Sizzix Party Ideas with Eileen Hull Dies

Hi and welcome to my blog. Today Eileen Hull's Design Team are showcasing Eileen's dies for Sizzix party ideas.
I opted for a centre piece for a summer party table or this could quite easily house cutlery for the table too.
1 Die cut the canister from black mountboard using Eileen Hull's Sizzix Canister Die. We will not need the lid for this project.
2 Adhere the two body pieces together to create the Canister.
3 I used a Gelli print from a previous project for each side of the Canister. I simply added two colours of Fresco Finish Paint to my Gelli Plate and then placed the card onto the plate and removed.
4 Emboss each of the panels with Eileen Hull's Lace Medalliions Embossing Folder.
1. The embossing gives fabulous detail and texture to the design.
2 Swipe Picked Raspberry and Black Soot Distress Inks lightly over the raised areas.
3 Die cut Eileen's Flower, Romance from coffee filter papers.
3 Add Picked Raspberry Distress Ink to a non-stick craft sheet, spritz with water and then dip the edges of the die cut coffee filter papers into the beads of ink. The ink bleeds into the paper.
1 Cut a length of rusty tin wire and use Eileen Hull's Twist and Style Tool to twist the wire together. Place a pearl at the top of the wire so that this appears in the centre of the flower.
2 Add all the die cut flowers to the wire.
3 Scrunch each layer of the flower towards the centre.
4 Secure the flower in place by adhering a button at the back of the flower.
I added a Banner to one side of my Canister using Eileen Hull's Banners and Pennants Die set along with Chitchat Stickers for added interest.
I added delicate splatters of white paint to each of the panels.
I love the dimension and texture the embossing gives to each side of the Canister.
To complete I added moss and spirals of rusty wire.

A Vintage Journey - July Challenge - Monochromatic

Today sees the start of a new challenge over at A Vintage Journey. I am your host this month and our challenge is MONOCHROMATIC.

I love monochromatic themes in artwork; I love the balanced look it gives to a design. If you ever struggle with knowing what colours to use this should be right up your street, one colour alone or hues of one colour (plus black and/or white) - simple!
Please just check that your entry is vintage; shabby; mixed-media; art journalling; industrial or steampunk to be in with a chance of being a winner or Pinworthy mention.

I decided to create a canvas which developed as I worked on it over several days.
1 Paint the canvas with one coat of Gesso and dry with a heat tool. Apply Pumice Stone Distress Paint to the canvas and blend with a baby wipe.
2 Apply a darker layer of colour, in this case Hickory Smoke to the canvas, once again blending with a baby wipe. Use your fingers to blend the two colours together around the edges to avoid any lines.
3 Stamp the stem and flower onto the canvas.
4 Repeat this process twice to add two flowers to the canvas.
1 Ink the Tim Holtz Mini Layering Stencil with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink; pressing the inkpad directly onto the stencil.
2 Spritz the stencil lightly with water.
3 Place the stencil onto the canvas, ink side down, dab with a piece of kitchen towel and then remove to reveal the stenciling.
4 Do no re-ink the stencil simply place face side down and dab with a piece of kitchen towel once again and then remove. This will give a second generation of stencilling to the background.
1 Dry the stencilling with a heat tool.
2 Repeat the process with the number stencil until the background is randomly covered with numbers.
3 Ink the Ringer Mini Stencil with Black Soot Distress Ink and repeat the same process and then dry with a heat tool.
4 Paint a piece of scrap white card with Gesso and dry with a heat tool. Stamp the Echinacea flower onto the Gesso background using Black Archival Ink.
1 Cut out the Echinacea flowers and then scribble Hickory Smoke Distress Marker onto the flower.
2 Blend the Distress Crayon with a finger.
3 Blend the colour further applying Picket Fence Distress Crayon over the top.
4 Scribble Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon to the edges of the canvas and blend with a finger. I also added a further layer of interest by applying Texture Past through the same number stencil to add further texture to the design.
I added four layers to each of the flowers and then added threads behind each flower for added texture. I also added delicate splatters of paint.
I love how all the layers are visible! I also added splatters of Black Soot Paint to the background.
I also added stencilling to the sides of the canvas.
I bent each of the flower petals to add movement and dimension to the design.
I also added random stripes to the background using the Stripes Layering Stencil, applying Hickory Smoke Distress Ink over the stencil using a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam.
To add a further layer, I also included Remnant Rubs added randomly to the background.
To complete the design I added an embroidery hoop which I painted lightly with Picket Fence Distress Paint, applying the paint with a baby wipe to give a whitewash look. I also included a 'beautiful' ChitChat Sticker.
Our generous sponsor this month is The Funkie Junkie Boutique and a randomly drawn winner has the chance to win a $25 gift voucher.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed my take on the challenge this month. I look forward to seeing your monochromatic pieces.
