Eileen Hull Monthly Challenge - Cards

Happy New Year. Welcome to my monthly post for Eileen Hull. This month the DT are focusing on cards and techniques.

 I decided on a masculine card this time around with a mixed media feel and I really enjoyed making my first card of the new year.

Cut a piece of white card to your chosen size and then paint with a light coat of Gesso. I like to add Gesso as this makes blending so much easier.

Use any old paint lids or containers and then apply Twisted Citron Distress Paint to the edges of the lid using a finger and press the lid onto the card.

Repeat this process until you are happy with the composition. I used two sized lids for my design.

Colour each of the circles with one layer of paint in this case Twisted Citron, I applied the paint with a finger.

I added a second colour, Peacock Feathers Distress Paint and blended each of the colours together with my finger. Adding the darker shade to the edges of the circles.

Continue with this process, blending as you move along until all the circles are shaded.

Apply Twisted Citron Distress Ink to a non-stick craft sheet, spritz with water and then pick up with a paintbrush and apply the ink around the edges of the circles.

This gives a tone on tone shading to the outside edges of the circles.

Continue adding layers of the colour around the edges, adding more colour the closer you are to the circles. and then dry with a heat tool.

To add a touch more shading and depth to the circles I applied Peacock Feathers Distress Crayon around the edges.

 Smudge the Distress Crayon with a finger to blend.

I also added a touch of Black Distress Crayon here and there for further definition and shading. Continue this process until you are happy with the finished look.

Add delictate splatters of white paint to the background for added interrest and highlights.

I then started to think about a focal image and used  Eileen Hull's Luggage Tag Die as a starting point.

I die cut the pieces from the Luggage Tag from white card and used the piece on the left for this project.

I stamped the die cut piece with Tim Holtz Gent from the Evolution Stamp Set using Black Archival Ink. I coloured the background with Twisted Citron Distress Ink. I also applied Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges and smudged with a finger. At this stage I also added a touch more Black Distress Crayon around the edges of my circles and a touch more Peacock Feathers Distress Paint to the inside edges of the circles for further shading.

I then die cut three banners from white card using Eileen Hull's Banners and Pennants Die.

I applied Twisted Citron Distress Ink to a non-stick craft sheet, spritzed with water and then mopped up the beads of ink with the die cut piece.

I coloured each of the pennants with the ink and then dried with a heat tool and applied Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges.

I love the shading on the circles they seem to pop from the background and the white highlights really lift the design. I was quite pleased with the way this one turned out.

A few more delicate splatters of paint over the focal image and I also tucked the die cut pieces behind the focal image for further interest.

A few of Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs add further interest to the background and the black is a great contrast to the citrus colours.

I love how all the layers are visible and the colours really appeal to me.

Eileen Hull Collaborates with DCWV

For the month of November the Eileen Hull Design Team and DCWV are collaborating with a month long blog hop. This is my third piece using the fabulous papers from DCWV.

This week I created a shadow box and coordinated card combining DCWV papers and Eileen Hull's Twist and Style Tool and Eileen's Banners and Pennants Die.

I began with one of Tim Holtz shadow boxes and a piece of the DCWV paper. I began by painting the shadow box with a coat of Gesso and I then painted the shadow box with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Medium Grey Value 6 paint.

I added a Relic piece onto a bottle cap.

I used Eileen's Twist and Style tool to twist two pieces of wire together and I then shaped it into a body for my angel. I then adhered the wire to a piece of the DCWV paper.

I cut out the body shape from the paper and then checked everything for size.

The star pennants were cut from metal foil tape and added to the body.

The pennants were trimmed to fit the body and I then added DecoArt Media Crackle Glaze to the cross Relic piece.

A wash of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Raw Umber was added to the Relic pieces.

I created a coordinated card which has also been created using a piece of the DCWV paper.

I stamped the sentiment onto the decorative paper using Black Archival Ink and I then sponged Hickory Smoke Distress Ink over a bauble stencil to add a touch of shading.

I added a few shaded stars using Tim Holtz Stars Layering Stencil for an added touch to the background along with a few delicate splatters of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Titanium White.

I added a wooden tag to the top of my shadow box and stamped the 'Christmas' sentiment using Tim Holtz Simple Sayings Stamp set.

I twisted more wire using Eileen's Twist and Style tool and added circles of wire to the bodice for further details.

Splatters of Titanium White paint were added to the shadow box.

I added a mirrored star to her hand.

A few more mirrored stars and Imagine and Believe embellishments were also added.

I also added twisted wire to the outside edges of the shadow box, once again twisted using Eileen's Twist and Style Tool.

The splatters of white paint and grey and silver touches add to the icy feel of this piece.

Eileen Hull Collaborates with DCWV

For the month of November the Eileen Hull Design Team and DCWV are collaborating with a month long blog hop. This is my second piece using the fabulous papers from DCWV.

This time around I have opted for a Christmas Card with a mixed media feel.

I cut a piece of the paper from the Cranberry Christmas Stack to fit my card front and then embossed with Eileen Hull's Waffle Embossing Folder.

I rubbed over the embossed area with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to highlight the wonderful texture.

I then applied DecoArt Media Crackle Paste over a bauble stencil and allowed to dry naturally.

PaperArtsy Sunset Beach Infusions were then applied to the top of the bauble and then spritzed with water to activate. I allowed the ink to sit for a few moments and then dried with my heat tool.

I also applied some Chocolate Box Mega Flakes over the top of the bauble to give a metallic touch to the design.

I die cut two star pennants from white card using Eileen Hull's Banners and Pennants Thinlits Die and then coloured them with more of the Infusions.

I applied DecoArt Metallic Lustre over the raised areas using my finger again to add more metallic touches to the design. I also added delicate splatters of Tarnished Brass Distress Paint to the background and then dried with my heat tool.

To complete, I added a december 25 Small Talk Sticker and layered the design onto another piece of the Cranberry Christmas Paper Stack.
