Sewing Frame

It's a new month so Simon Says Stamp and Show are offering a week of ANYTHING GOES this week, that's right create whatever you please, whatever direction creativity takes you, we would love to see how you are inspired.

I simply enjoyed the freedom of just playing this week and stumbled upon a frame and inspiration struck to create a sewing themed piece.

Typical we have an anything goes challenge and I am stuck for ideas so I decided to scan my room and whatever grabbed my attention I would use; in this case it was the Tim Holtz Alterations Sewing Room Die and a frame.  I had no idea where I was going with this piece but I decided to give myself some freedom and just play and see where it took me! I simply gathered bits and pieces that I thought might work with the die and began to play, no theme, just freedom to do whatever I liked. The Mini Blueprints 3 stamp set was an obvious choice and the scissors seemed a perfect fit.The Martha Stewart Crafter's Clay Garden Molds were also lying around so I thought I would bring them into my piece using in conjunction with clay to add a further texture to my piece. I have really enjoyed the experience of just allowing my creativity to just go in whatever direction I like.
The first thing I decided to do was to stamp the scissor image onto a piece of calico and add stitched lines along each to sort of represent cut along here that you see on packaging. I left the threads as I quite liked the natural feeling to it.
This is the frame prior to any decoration. At first I was going to crackle the frame but whilst playing I decided against the crackle, that's the freedom of an anything goes challenge!
I painted the frame with inky pool Fresco Finish Paint (I did not bother to paint the central panel as this is will be covered. I then added 'FRAGILE' and 'AUTHENTIC' using the Classic Words Stencils For Art and white embossing paste.
I applied white embossing paste through a Crafters Workshop mini tile texture template onto the frame.
It's so satisfying when things come together when you are just playing with no concrete idea in mind.
A coat of inky pool paint was then applied over the embossing paste.
Whilst the paint was drying I then applied sky paint to the scissor images. I simply added paint to my non-stick craft sheet, spritzed the paint with a little water and painted the images, as well as my fingers by the look of them in this picture!
At this stage I decided that I need to lighten the frame a touch and so dry brushed sky all over the frame and then applied Treasure Silver Gilding Wax to my finger and rubbed over the raised embossed areas and the edges of the frame.
The next step was to die cut the dressform using the sewing room die and I decided that the wallpaper stamp from Tim Holtz would be the perfect way to decorate the dress form. I applied inky pool paint to a piece of Cut 'n' Dry foam and applied the paint to the stamp, aiming to apply an even coverage to the stamp. Once you have finished stamping it is important to clean your stamp thoroughly.
I simply pressed the die cut dressform onto the paint covered stamp and removed.
To tone down the white background a touch I applied broken china Distress Ink to the die cut.
I now began to think about embellishing and decided it would be fun to create some paper clay embellishments.
Simply press the paper clay into the molds, removing any excess and ensuring the clay is pushed into the design and then remove. They make fabulous lightweight embellishments.
It was then simply a case of assembling.
I painted the paper clay embellishments with inky pool paint and then highlighted the raised areas with Treasure Silver Gilding Wax.
Before adding the calico fabric to the frame I stitched buttons to the calico and added 'cut' and 'sew' using Alpha Parts Signmaker letters. I added touches of Gilding Wax to each of the letters. I also added a sewing machine embellishment and touches of Elements Tissue Tape.
A couple more paper clay embellishments and some scissor brass embellishments which I coloured with silver Paint Dabber. You can also see the fabulous texture from the embossing paste.
I love the touches of thread and the fact that the frame is so tactile.
For more great ideas please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp and Show blog and take a look at my fellow team members they have created inspirational projects. Remember there is also the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp.  I always look forward to seeing your creations each week.

Tracy...I love your little frame that is all about sewing. First of all, the center, where you've stamped and then stitched is really a cool idea. Love that and love the way you've colored the scissors! The frame itself is a really pretty color and I love all of the stenciling and texture you've added to it. The dressform with the stamped on color really pops. Love all of the little paper clay embellishments, too. So many techniques and so much detail on one piece! Love it! <3 Candy
