The Altered Alice - Chapter 17 Challenge, Week 1 - Hurrah for the Red, White & Blue!

The Altered Alice are celebrating Independence Day along with the United States so our challenge this month is a patriotic RED, WHITE and BLUE colour challenge. Of course here in Wonderland we know those colors are for the White Queen, the Red Queen, and Alice's blue dress!

We also have a fabulous prize on offer from our wonderful sponsor SIMON SAYS STAMP.
Below is our monthly snippet from the book.

The White Queen gave a deep sigh, and laid her head on Alice's shoulder. `I am so sleepy?' she moaned.
`She's tired, poor thing!' said the Red Queen. `Smooth her hair -- lend her your nightcap -- and sing her a soothing lullaby.'
`I haven't got a nightcap with me,' said Alice, as she tried to obey the first direction: `and I don't know any soothing lullabies."
`I must do it myself, then,' said the Red Queen, and she began:
Hush-a-by lady, in Alice's lap!
Till the feast's ready, we've time for a nap:
When the feast's over, we'll go to the ball --
Red Queen, and White Queen, and Alice, and all!
-- Chapter 9, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There
I really wanted to get inky this month and have the freedom to just play and a journal page gave me the ideal opportunity.  I began with an inky background spraying with Dylusions ink sprays postbox red and london blue. I applied several layers of colour blotting up the excess between applications until I was happy with the coverage.
Once I was happy with my inky background I used the Dylusions chequered dots mask, spritzed through the circles with water, allowing the water to soak into the ink for a short while and then blotting with kitchen towel, this gives a shadow appearance in the background. I added these circles to both pages, adding a further layer of interest to my background.
I used a snow cap paint dabber through the chequered stencil to give me further white highlights, giving a lift to my otherwise dark background. I printed this months quote onto card and then cut two hearts colouring with fired brick Distress Ink.  I love adding white dots around my images it really makes them pop from the background and adds yet further interest.
To add a little more white to my creation I cut out the Red Queen, White Queen and Alice from the text and added to my heart for further dimension and to work with our RED WHITE and BLUE challenge. No celebration is complete without bunting so I thought it would be perfect to add some to the top of my pages adding ALICE using the Word Play die.
I stamped Alice and the Rabbit from the Wonderland stamp set onto white card, colouring Alice with Distress Markers, but keeping the Rabbit white, I love the contrast between the coloured and the non coloured image. I added a further heart along with the sentiment "Sorry, I'm late.....".
I added more of the text from our quote this month to the bottom of my page, colouring the edges with faded jeans ink.
