Steampunk Canvas

The challenge this week with Simon Says Stamp and Show is to create something using your favourite ink pad, your most used pad, or create with a favourite ink.

I have showcased my favourite ink pad, brushed corduroy Distress Ink in a steampunk dimensional canvas.
This weeks challenge was an easy one for me as I absolutely love brushed corduroy Distress Ink; perfect in my opinion for ageing any project or item, it adds that subtle aged colour without over powering the focal image. Tim Holtz Top Hats image takes centre stage in my dimension pocket watch cut using the Pocket Watch Frame die. The Idea-ology Pocket Watch embellishment echoes the main large focal pocket watch to give further interest and dimension to my canvas.
I began my canvas by firstly creating the dimension pocket watch. I die cut two bases, one from thick grey board and one from white card.
Next I added the large circle from the Sized Circles dies to my pocket watch frame and then die cut several layers to add to my base for dimension.
I coloured the white card pocket watch base with black soot Distress Ink. I die cut a circle from white card using the Sized Circles die, stamped the background with Tim Holtz Gears stamp using walnut stain Distress Ink and then aged, colouring with brushed corduroy ink. The gentlement with top hats have been stamped over the top with black Archival Ink.
From this picture you can see the subtle stamping in the background and the wonderful aged effect achieved from brushed corduroy Distress Ink.
I die cut one layer from acetate and added some stamping using black Stazon. I also added some mini gears to the acetate before assembling the pocket watch to give the appearance that they are floating inside the watch.
The background of my canvas has been covered with a sheet of card stock from Tim's Crowded Attic stash and I also sanded the edges to age a little and then coloured with brushed corduroy Distress Ink. Once I assembled my pocket watch I painted with black soot Distress Paint, adding silver Paint Dabber to the top to give a metal like appearance. You can also see the layer of acetate with the gears added. I also added enjoy the journey to the top of my watch.
This angle highlights the fabulous dimension given to the pocket watch. I have also added pen nibs, aged with a touch of black soot Distress Paint.
To add further texture I also added some ball chain to link both the pocket watches, again ageing a little with a touch of black soot Distress Paint. For further interest I have also included some mini numerals and mini gears.
I added some stamping to the pocket watch using black StazOn and the Gears background stamp, adding another one of the gentlemen with the top hats to the centre. Once again the stamped piece has been aged with brushed corduroy Distress Ink.
The sides of my canvas have also been decorated with mini gears cut using the Mini Gears die.

For more great ideas please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp and Show blog and take a look at my fellow team members they have created inspirational projects. Remember there is also the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp.  I always look forward to seeing your creations each week.
