FROM THE HEART

Stencils are all the rage along with an increasing variety of paste mediums to go along with them. This week Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge would like you to get out your paste or stencils and make some texture on your project! Whether you are a fan of gel mediums or embossing pastes, using gesso and a stencil to make texture or you just love 'pasting' bits of paper together decoupage style, we would love to see what you create.
Embossing Paste is a favourite medium of mine at the moment, I love the texture it adds to a design, adding yet more interest to any artwork. I opted for Wendy Vecchi's White Embossing Paste along with Wendy Vecchi's Lovely Large Flower Stencil combined with the Large Heart Stencil.
I began with a piece of 6.5" x 6.5" piece of white card stock applied White Embossing Paste over the card, applying a thin layer with a palette knife and then setting aside to dry.  Once the Embossing Paste was completely dry I painted with Broken China Distress Paint and I then added some background stamping using the background stamp from the Tim Holtz Classics 9 Stamp Set using Vermillion Archival Ink. I also distressed the edges of this piece with a Paper Distresser and then applied Fired Brick Distress Ink around the edges. I cut two hearts from white card drawing around Wendy Vecchi's Large Heart, I then applied Kelly Purkey's Washi tape to one of my hearts and applied White Embossing Paste to the second heart and coloured with Fired Brick Distress Paint. Once the Embossing Paste was dry I then dry brushed Broken China Distress Paint over the heart and added background stamping using Cornflower Blue Archival Ink.
To add further dimension and texture I placed the Lovely Large Flower Stencil over the heart and applied White Embossing Paste over the stencil. I love this effect, applying texture on top of texture. Once the Embossing Paste was completely dry I placed the stencil over the flower once again and then coloured with Broken China Distress Paint and again once dry I dry brushed Fired Brick Distress Paint over the texture.
The dry brushing really highlights the wonderful texture achieved from the Embossing Paste.
I affixed the two hearts onto my background piece and added staples to the bottom of each heart using a Tiny Attacher.
I stamped the sentiment 'from the heart' three times with Cornflower Blue Archival Ink onto white card using the Simple Sayings Stamp Set. Each sentiment has been coloured with Broken China Distress Ink and then added to the card.
For more great ideas please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog and take a look at my fellow team members artwork, they have created some inspirational projects. Remember there is also the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp.  I always look forward to seeing your creations each week.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment, much appreciated. Tracy x x

  20. Such glorious color and energy in this piece! It was the perfect contrast to the view outside my window...which is gray skies and some week-old dirty snow that won't melt! I love how you added such great texture with your paste and I thought it was brilliant to make your word banners appear 3D, too!

  22. Hi Tracy. I love your heart card. It's so pretty and of course, you would use hearts! :) The colors are so complimentary to each other. Love the reds against the teal tones. The patterned paper also looks really nice and sort of brings everything together, doesn't it? Love Wendy's flower that you've pasted on top of the heart. Your random stamping on the background looks great, too. Really a nice piece! <3 Candy
