I had this old book cover just lying around so I thought rather than just throwing it in the bin or just storing something else, I would give it a new look.
The first thing I did was to cover the entire piece in tissue paper which I recycled from a shoe box. I crumpled to add texture before adding any colour with Adirondack Color Wash Espresso and Sunset Orange. I decorated the book cover with images from Tim's Papillon set along with embellishments including Memo Pins, Jump Rings, Corners and Philosophy Tag along with the Filmstrip Frames Decorative Strip Die.
I love the richness of colour the Orange and Espresso gave when sprayed on top of each other. All my images have been embossed with white embossing powder.
I added some dimension to my butterflies, adding one image on top of the other along with FLY added to jump rings, adhereing with Glossy Accents.
I added a Philosophy tag, which I thought was the perfect addition especially with this creation being an ALTERED piece. To complete, I added metal flowers from my stash and a Trinket Pin to one of my butterflies.
Please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp and Show blog and take a look at my fellow team members they have created some inspirational projects and remember there is also the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp. I always look forward to seeing your creations each week.

Tracy, your altered book cover is so lovely. I'm amazed at all the attention to detail. I love your "FLY" jump rings body on your butterfly. That is just so cool! Well, I love how you've used all of your Ideaology pieces. Love the color-the white is striking against the distressed browns. <3 Candy

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely fabulous, Tracey! I am really loving the dark colors with the white embossing. The way you blended your color stains gives it such a rich worn look. You have created a really stunning vintage piece!
