Eileen Hull Collaborates with DCWV

For the month of November the Eileen Hull Design Team and DCWV are collaborating with a month long blog hop. This is my third piece using the fabulous papers from DCWV.

I have combined the papers from DCWV from the Cranberry Christmas Paper Stack with Eileen Hull's Cookie Box die and Bird Die.

The base is Eileen's Cookie Box Die covered with papers from DCWV; the gold gives my design a real opulent feel.

I added Eileen's Bird to my cage and applied DecoArt Media Crackle Glaze to the body to add further detail. I covered mountboard with a piece of DCWV paper which has grey dots and then applied the glaze over the top. To highlight the cracks further I added DecoArt Media Medium Grey Antiquing Cream, wiping away any excess with a baby wipe. I then added a coat of Matt Medium over the top to protect and to stop the Antiquing Cream moving any further. I also added touches of DecoArt Metallic Lustre to the body of the bird along with a wing from a metal butterfly earring. I added a mini gold bell for the eye of the bird.

The santa with the little girl is from Tim's Idea-ology Ephemera packs, adding a vintage touch to the design.

I used Eileen Hull's Twist and Style Tool to twist the wires for my cage element and added some pine cone embellishments from Tim Holtz.

A touch of moss has been added to the base for a little more texture.

A believe embellishment has been included again with added Metallic Lustre along with a Tim Holtz Remnant Rub.

This makes a wonderful alternative to a Christmas card.

Eileen Hull Collaborates with DCWV

For the month of November the Eileen Hull Design Team and DCWV are collaborating with a month long blog hop. This is my second piece using the fabulous papers from DCWV.

This time around I have opted for a Christmas Card with a mixed media feel.

I cut a piece of the paper from the Cranberry Christmas Stack to fit my card front and then embossed with Eileen Hull's Waffle Embossing Folder.

I rubbed over the embossed area with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to highlight the wonderful texture.

I then applied DecoArt Media Crackle Paste over a bauble stencil and allowed to dry naturally.

PaperArtsy Sunset Beach Infusions were then applied to the top of the bauble and then spritzed with water to activate. I allowed the ink to sit for a few moments and then dried with my heat tool.

I also applied some Chocolate Box Mega Flakes over the top of the bauble to give a metallic touch to the design.

I die cut two star pennants from white card using Eileen Hull's Banners and Pennants Thinlits Die and then coloured them with more of the Infusions.

I applied DecoArt Metallic Lustre over the raised areas using my finger again to add more metallic touches to the design. I also added delicate splatters of Tarnished Brass Distress Paint to the background and then dried with my heat tool.

To complete, I added a december 25 Small Talk Sticker and layered the design onto another piece of the Cranberry Christmas Paper Stack.

A Vintage Journey - Cracking Up

We have a new challenge over at A Vintage Journey and our host for November is the lovely Alison who had this to say about her challenge.

"Share your crackled projects - whether your crackle is stamped, painted, texture paste or any other kind of crackle."

Please remember to be a winner of Pinworthy mention your project must be in a vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial or steampunk style.

I opted for a clean and simple design this time around to show that even the simplest of designs can include crackle; adding wonderful texture to a piece of work.

I began by stamping my sentiment with Watering Can Archival Ink, drying with a heat tool to prevent any smudging and then placing a bauble stencil over the text. Securing in place with low tack around all sides of the stencil.

I then pressed the Broken China Distress Inkpad onto a piece of acetate and then spritzed with water.

Place the acetate over the bauble and smoosh the ink over the aperture area using your fingers. Using acetate in this way or recycled packaging means that you can place the ink exactly where you need it.

Dry the ink with a heat tool.

Repeat the same process with Dusty Concord to add a second layer of colour and then dry with a heat tool.

Apply Broken China Distress Ink around the edges of the bauble for definition using a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam.

Remove the stencil. I love how the text is still visible below all the ink.

Apply a layer of DecoArt Crackle Glaze over the top of the bauble and allow to dry completely.

Apply DecoArt Media Patina Green Antiquing Cream over the top of the crackle, applying with a finger.

Remove any excess Antiquing Cream with a baby wipe and then apply a coat of Matt Medium to seal.

I made several of these cards at the same time, adding crackle to some and not to others for variety.

The crackle adds fantastic texture to the design and I love how the two colours blend beautifully together.

I added a matt of card coloured with Dusty Concord Distress Ink to coordinate with my design.

I added a sentiment using Tim Holtz stamps, stamped with Dusty Concord Distress Ink and then dried with my  heat tool.

Eileen Hull Collaborates with DCWV

For the month of November the Eileen Hull Design Team and DCWV are collaborating with a month long blog hop.

The majority of papers we were sent were Christmas but I wanted to use one of the papers to show that they can also be used in other ways not just Christmas and this paper used in the background was perfect for a masculine card.

I began with a piece of the DCWV paper which is fantastic quality and distressed the edges with my scissors and then applied Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to the edges.

I then placed the Tim Holtz Stripes Layering Stencil over the paper and then applied DecoArt Media Crackle Paste over the top.

I tore some of the edges to give a distressed feel to the background and then allowed the Crackle Paste to dry completely.

I added Tissue Tape for further added interest and added a few sprinkles of Infusions from PaperArtsy which I then spritzed with water to give an aged feel to the background.

I then die cut Eileen Hull's Luggage Tag from thick white card and then embossed it with Eileen Hull's Waffle Embossing Folder; colouring the embossed area with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to highlight the texture.

I added Remnant Rubs for an added layer of interest along with some Rusty Tin Wire around the image to act as a spotlight to the focal image.

I added a vintage image behind Eileen's Luggage Tag, I love using vintage imagery in my artwork. I also included two vintage pen nibs for further interest.

Happy Halloween

Just popping by to wish you all a Happy Halloween.

I created a background using Tim Holtz Ringer stencil and Black Soot Distress Ink adding touches of purple with Wilted Violet Distress Ink; applied with some recycled packaging.

I added wax crayons to a skull mould, loving this technique at the moment.

Small Talk Stickers have been added.

A circle of twine has been added for extra texture and interest along with some delicate splatters of Black Soot Distress Paint.
